Deadbeat Club Classroom Terms & Conditions
1. Agreement
By applying to and enrolling in Deadbeat Club Classroom (the "Program"), run by Deadbeat Club ("Deadbeat Club," "we," "us"), you agree to these terms. Please read them before you apply.
2. Eligibility
The Program is open to photographers with a body of work to develop. You are responsible for having your own camera, workflow, computer, reliable internet, and a Zoom account. The Program is advising and critique, not technical instruction. You must be 18 or older to take part.
3. Applications
The application fee is $20, payable when you apply.
The application fee is non-refundable, except if the Program is cancelled for any reason. (see Section 8)
Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Submitting an application is not a guarantee of acceptance.
We may reach out for a short conversation before finalizing the group.
Application materials are used only to evaluate your application and are handled per Section 11.
4. Tuition and payment
Tuition for 2027 is $8500.
Applications received during the early-bird window (before October 31st 2026) pay a reduced rate of $7500 locked in by paying the deposit.
One scholarship place is available with tuition fees fully waived for the program. Any travel or other costs are the responsibility of the scholarship participant (see Section 10).
What tuition covers: the eight-month program as described on the program page.
What tuition does not cover: travel and accomodations for the optional in-person events; your own equipment and materials; and the cost of producing and presenting your own work, including printing, framing, and installation materials for the exhibition.
5. Deposit and enrollment
A deposit of 25% of your tuition secures your place and counts toward your tuition. It is non-refundable, and paying it locks in the early-bird rate if you applied during the early window.
Deposit due within 10 days of acceptance, or by January 15, whichever comes first. If it isn't received in that window, we may release your place.
The remaining balance is paid in full, or in three equal installments of 25% each, at no extra cost: Payment 1 due January 15, Payment 2 due March 15, Payment 3 due May 15.
6. Withdrawal and refunds
The deposit is non-refundable at all times.
January 15 is the commitment date. If you withdraw before January 15, you owe only the deposit, and any tuition beyond it that you have paid is refunded.
On or after January 15, you are committed to the full tuition. Withdrawing on or after this date, or leaving the program once it has begun, does not cancel the remaining balance, and scheduled installments continue. We consider genuine emergencies case by case, at our discretion.
Missed sessions, or choosing not to attend the optional in-person events, are not grounds for a refund.
To withdraw, write to classroom@deadbeatclubpress.com. The withdrawal date is the date we receive your notice.
7. Changes to the Program
We may make reasonable changes to the schedule, format, venue, or guest artists. Guest artists are subject to availability and may be substituted. These changes do not entitle you to a refund.
8. Cancellation and minimum enrollment
The Program runs subject to a minimum enrollment of 4 participants.
If we cancel the Program before it begins (for low enrollment or otherwise), you will receive a refund of deposit and any tuition payments paid.
We are not responsible for any travel, lodging, or other costs you incur if the Program or an event is cancelled, postponed, or rescheduled. We recommend refundable bookings or travel insurance for the optional in-person events.
9. In-person events
The Program is built to run online. The two in-person events (the March kickoff and the August show opening, both in Los Angeles) are optional. You can complete the Program without attending either.
Travel, lodging, and meals for the in-person events are your responsibility and are not included in tuition.
10. Scholarship
One scholarship place is available with tuition fees fully waived for the program. On the application, you opt in to be considered and answer a short additional prompt. No financial documentation is required. Scholarship selection is at our discretion. Any travel or other costs are the responsibility of the scholarship participant.
11. Your work, image rights, and intellectual property
You keep the copyright to your work. Nothing here transfers ownership of your images to us.
By enrolling, you grant Deadbeat Club a non-exclusive license to reproduce and display the work you develop in the Program for: (a) the group exhibition, (b) the collective publication, and (c) marketing and promotion of the Program and Deadbeat Club.
Every participant is included in the group exhibition and the collective publication.
Deadbeat Club makes the final selection and edit for the group exhibition and the collective publication, in consultation with you.
Each participant receives five copies of the collective publication, and can buy additional copies at a discount.
We will credit you as the author of your work wherever it appears.
12. Participation and conduct
You agree to engage in good faith and to treat the group, guests, and staff with respect. We want a supportive room, and we may remove a participant for conduct that undermines it.
13. No guarantee of outcomes
The Program supports you in developing your project. It does not guarantee a finished or published book, a book deal, a prize, sales, exhibitions beyond the group show, or any specific professional outcome. What you leave with is your project resolved to a real presentation, along with the group exhibition and the collective publication.
14. Confidentiality of applicants
We keep applicant and accepted-participant identities confidential until the group is publicly announced. We announce only the committed group, never individual applicants or submissions.
15. Privacy and data
We use your application and enrollment information to run the Program and communicate with you. We do not sell your data.
16. Liability
To the extent permitted by law, Deadbeat Club is not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from your participation, including travel costs for cancelled or rescheduled events.
17. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California.
18. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The version in effect when you apply is the one that applies to you; material changes will be communicated.
